Meet Terry Herring

My name is Terry Herring, and I will be working with Erie 1 BOCES school districts as the coordinator for nicotine prevention, education, and cessation. I will also be supporting Horizon Health Services as the liaison for the SAFER program.

Most recently, I worked with NorthPointe Council, Inc. providing prevention education across Niagara County. I was also employed as a behavioral health coach with AbleTo, Inc. I am a certified school counselor and certified health coach. I hold a Master of Science in Counselor Education with an Advanced Certification in clinical mental health counseling.

Through my work with students, I have seen firsthand the academic, psychological, and physical impacts nicotine can have on developing brains and bodies. I am passionate about building bridges of support between community resources, school districts, students, and families to create access to education and support

My work is guided by a deep hope for a healthier generation, one that is not beholden to vaping devices and free from substance use and its lasting effects. I look forward to partnering with schools and communities across the region in this important work.

Time for Action

  • Erie 1 BOCES received grant funding through a settlement with Juul Labs, allowing schools to implement prevention and cessation supports now.
  • Vaping is more than a trend; it is a gateway to nicotine addiction and can lead to serious substance use disorders at all age levels.
  • Vaping products contain higher levels of nicotine than ever before, addicting students faster and more intensely. Some devices contain as much nicotine as an entire pack of cigarettes.
